Ah yes, the online course world. This industry was poppin’ before the pandemic, but since we’ve all been trapped at home, this world has SKYROCKETED.
I am not a course creator. So, I applaud all these course creators for doin’ the damn thang. And while I trust their expertise, it can be easy to get lost in the noise and overwhelmed by the options.
Without further ado, here’s my official list: 4 Courses that Took Me from Unemployed to Founder.
The Reach Out Party
For: Absolutely Everyone
Cost: $227 (first time), $95 to repeat
Inspired by the book Reach Out by Molly Beck, the Reach Out Party is a 27-day, live, interactive course where you learn and practice the art of digital networking with intention.
The main idea is: if you reach out to one new person every single day for 27 days, your network will expand, your life will improve, and you’ll be exposed to opportunities and collaborations you would never have dreamed of.
And this is exactly what happened to me! Not only did I make about 200 new friends in just 9 months of doing the Reach Out Party, but I started a business, got dozens of clients, spoke on 4 podcasts, had countless zoom chats with new friendly faces, and my life took a complete 180.
(It’s also just incredibly inspiring — I watched as my fellow party-goers got new jobs, connected with their heroes, and collaborated creatively with some pretty amazing people.)
Of all the courses, THIS is the one.
The Content Lab / The Pinterest Lab
For: Personal Brands, Small Business Owners, Entrepreneurs, Artists, Bloggers, Content Creators
These courses are for anyone who has ever wanted to start a consistent blog practice (and get as many eyes on it as possible). If you’re anything like me, you’ve probably tried to start a blog about 12 different times. I love the idea, but I always fall off the habit.
(And besides, why would I spend so much time writing blog posts if I knew no one was going to read them?)
And then I took this class. If you’re looking to create a system that works, get a *ton* of ideas, batch out your work, grow your email list, and make 1 blog post stretch out into 10-15 different pieces of content, these are the courses for you. (Also, they only took me two afternoons!)
Hubspot Email Marketing
For: Entrepreneurs, Business Owners, and Personal Brands
Guess what! The email marketing world is still alive and well. Even though email is the single most anxiety-inducing part of my business, I feel so much more confident after taking Hubspot’s completely free course.
In it, you’ll learn how to deliver the right content to the right people and provide actual value (instead of just selling).
Bonus: Doing It Also
For: Artists Looking to Find a Business Idea
Doing it Also is the only reason I have a business or blog in the first place. If you’re looking to ditch that restaurant job you hate and start something new to do on *top* of your art, look no further.
In the workshop, you’ll get to the bottom of what you’re good at and find the perfect intersection between your creativity + your potential business. Not to mention, it’s *so* incredibly inspiring to be around other artists who refuse to be limited to just one thing!
And there you have it! Whether you’re new to the online course world, don’t know where to start, or are looking for some inspiration, I hope this list helped.
If you take any of these classes because of this blog post, I’d love to hear what you think! You can connect with me here.
